‘Christmas in Nauvoo’ at BYU’s Education in Zion

Eliza R. Snow and Wilford Woodruff greeted visitors to the BYU Education in Zion Exhibit for a “Christmas in Nauvoo” held Monday evening.

These famous people from Church history were played by actors who work at the gallery in the Joseph Fielding Smith Building, but the stories they recounted, accompanied with music and hot chocolate, celebrated the Spirit of Christmas.

“Christmas in Nauvoo really brings the Spirit in and prepares us for the Christmas season,” said junior Chris Kinghorn, a gallery educator and narrator for last week’s program. “It’s all great, but my favorite part is the singing and the musical aspect.”

Senior Leica Clayton loves the stories. “The stories are really cool; they’re lesser-known stories about Christmas traditions of well-known historical characters,” she said. “The hot chocolate is pretty great too.”

The “Christmas in Nauvoo” program will be held again next Monday, Dec. 8, at 7 and 8 p.m. Large FHE groups are asked to call ahead at (801) 422-6519.

The Education in Zion exhibit will also host a Study Break on Dec. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. with free pizza, live music and games. Free Music Fridays are held every week at noon.
